Termite Protection

The coming of spring is always a season to look forward to. In some cases, though, spring also means insects springing forth. There are many insects that go dormant during the winter season and who become active again during spring until the summer seasons.

Since spring is the season when the termite colonies begin to emerge and reproduce once more, it is always best to come up with a good decision on how to put a stop to their reproduction. Professional termite inspection would save a lot of money, time, and properties from being damaged.

United States is a host to subterranean termites. Although they are essential to the ecological balance of our planet (they recycle wood), they also bring much damage to properties each year. To be able to put a stop to these damages, it is important to employ the best methods that are available in the market.

Before any type of termite annihilating product is to be applied, it is important to ask the help of termite control experts. The first step is always to check the amount of damage that the termites have done. A non-expert would not be able to specify the exact location of termites without the proper equipment that is why it is always best to rely on expert opinion.

One good way to prevent further infestation of termites is to put a chemical barrier all around the ‘once infested’ property. This is also highly advisable to new properties. The chemical barrier would act as a shield against any termites that might try to ‘invade’ your home. This barrier is done by chemically treating the soil that surrounds the property (trenches will have to be dug so that the soil can be treated with the chemical).

Be wary of termites in damp and dark spaces in your home. Even planks of wood that have been chemically-treated are not safe from the infestation of these pests. Take note that even live trees can become homes for termites! So anywhere that there’s wood, there could be termites.

To treat the hollow blocks in your home (or the slabs in your home), it is imperative to drill some holes into the hollow portions of the block. Make sure to consult your state’s existing laws on drilling, though. These holes will then be filled with chemicals which would help in protecting your home for several years. It is believed to be more potent than chemical applications that are done outside the home.

Foam treatments are also one of the most effective methods of keeping termites at bay. Back in the 90’s, they have become so famous that until today, they are still being applied when the last possible treatments have failed. This method also guarantees that there is zero population at the end of the day (plus several more years of being termite-free)!

Another good fortification is by putting stakes (that are treated with chemicals) on some areas surrounding the property. The termites eat the wooden stake, they carry the poison around with them, and they eventually kill their relatives. This method is often done to kill ants and roaches and it is highly effective so there is no reason that it won’t work with termites. The only down side to this is when the termites ‘miss’ the stakes.

These are just some methods of keeping the termites from ravaging your own home. It is always best to prepare for them rather than to cry gallons of tears later.
